About therapy
The psychodynamic perspective is based on the principle that current difficulties and distress can be related to early life experiences which can, consciously and unconsciously, be repeated in our lives and relationships in the present.
Whatever has caused hurt in the past may lead to life patterns that can inhibit the potential of people becoming who they truly are by affecting the way they think and feel about themselves. In modern day life these patterns, or ways of relating which may have helped us in the past, can become the cause of distress and may get in the way of the ability to enjoy a healthy relationship either with ourselves, with others, or both.
Therapy is a collaborative process, we work together at your own pace one step at a time and I will gently encourage you to explore issues that are causing you distress.
Through our discussions and reflections you can gain insight which will give you a better and deeper understanding of yourself. This self-knowledge will give real meaning to you and can empower you to have better relationships and to make more informed life choices. This in turn can free you to live your life more fully, in a more self determined way.
There are many reasons why people seek professional help. These range from specific problems such as the breakdown of a relationship, anxiety, stress or depression, to less specific reasons such as a sense of being stuck in a life without meaning. Therapy can help during these times of crisis and it can be a great relief to talk with an independent person.
